Mission and Vision

Our Mission

Educating Hawai‘i-based people and visitors on principles of respect for the land, environmental sustainability, and societal balance, combining traditional Hawaiian and contemporary understandings and practices.

Our Vision

We envision a future when all people residing in or working in the Hawaiian islands will conduct themselves with respect and care for the delicate balance between humanity and the natural world, working together to produce ‘āina momona–abundance.

PWI Director Doug Herman talks about the importance of Indigenous Knowledge in this public service announcement on World Water Day, produced by the U.S. Consulate in Chennai, India, 2019.
